What to prepare before speaking to a student adviser

A short checklist for your first study abroad enquiry, from your academic background to the questions you and your family want answered.

You do not need a finished study plan

You can start with something as simple as: “I have finished HSC, I am interested in business and I want to understand the costs.” That is enough to begin a useful conversation.

Our enquiry form does not ask you to upload certificates or identity documents. For now, a summary of your education and the questions you have will do.

Have these details in mind

A few notes will help the adviser understand what you need. If a parent is helping you decide, ask what they would like to know as well.

  • Your latest qualification, subjects and results available so far.
  • The course or subject you are interested in, if you have one.
  • When you would like to start studying.
  • The spending range your family is considering.
  • Anything you are particularly unsure about.

Ask what the support includes

Alongside course questions, ask how the application will be handled. Who submits the documents? Who contacts the university? What will you need to do yourself?

Ask about any service charges and what they cover before agreeing to proceed. Request important details in writing so you can refer to them later.

Agree on what happens next

You might need to check an entry requirement, discuss the budget with your family or compare two courses. Before the conversation ends, make sure you know which action comes next and who will take it.
